Okay, so... Sailing has been in the game for a while now. Yet most people have no clue what exactly it is, or how to level it.

What is Sailing?

Sailing is one of the newer life skills added in BDO.

To level this, you'll have to sail around in de Margoria Sea region. Yes, that is the sea where you have no compass. And YES, that is where the monsters live.

So, now what?

Well first off all, you're going to need a wonderful Epheria Sailboat or Frigate!

How to get a boat?

In Epheria Port you can build your very own Epheria Sailboat or Epheria Frigate.

Port Epheria 3-5, 2F provides a level 3 Shipyard where you can build these Ship Licences.

So, what do you need?

For an Epheria Sailboat you'll need;

  • Design: Epheria Sailboat x20
  • Standardized Timber Square x800
  • Steel x600
  • Pine Plywood x1500
  • Flax Fabric x300

How you get these mats is entirely up to you. Aside from the Standardized Timber Squares you can find pretty much all of it on the market.

If you don't like to gather, perhaps you can do a few gather missions to get guild contribution while you're at it. Sometimes its easier to work towards a smaller goal if you feel like it's too hard.

For an Epheria Frigate you'll need;

  • Design: Epheria Frigate x20
  • Standardized Timber Square x1000
  • Jade Coral Ingot x800
  • Pine Coated Plywood x1600
  • Enhanced Flax Fabric x450

These materials require far more effort to get then the Sailboat. The only difference between the Sailboat and Frigate is probably the amount of cannons.

The Sailboat has 1 cannon on each side, where the Frigate has 2 cannons on each side.

Both boats can also be upgraded with craftable gear. To do this you're gonna need Port Epheria 1-4, 2F where the only lv4 Ship Part Workshop is located.

Well then off to the next questions...

Daily quests?

Yes there are daily quests to level Sailing. Since the beginning of Sailing (or almost anyways), there has been a quest in Port Ratt that asks you to move an item to one of the 4 ports on the mainland.

It's up to you which you choose. Of course the further away, the more exp you get. You can choose out of one of these 4 ports: Epheria - Velia - Altinova - Ancado.

The quest starts at Sihuram, the Guild Wharf Manager. Simply pick the port of choice quest, take the item along and sail back to the mainland to hand over the item at the destined spot.

You need to have finished the Margoria questline (click "O" Suggested and find it there).

But, little do they know there's actually more quests!!

In Velia and Epheria Port, talk to the Wharf Managers (normal ones, not guild). They will both have 3 different quests and will send you out to hunt down certain mobs found in the Margoria Sea.

Not only do these give Sailing exp, but you'll also receive a Breezy Crystal (restores 10% of power with 60 min. cd) or an Origin of Wind (restores 50% of power with 30 min. cd).

This will help you go out on the sea to hunt down the monsters, AND of course to go to Port Ratt to take the Sailing daily there.

One downside though, for these quests you'll need Sailing beginner 3! Which of course shouldn't be too much of a hassle because the Port Ratt daily is actually pretty good!

So, how do you do all this when you DONT have a boat?

Well, that's going to be a tricky one. For the Port Ratt daily you can of course take the ferry from Olvia Coast to Lema, and then from Lema to Port Ratt (and back again).

That ride will take you about 45 min to an hour... x2!! Better bring a fishing rod...

So, best to ask a friend or guildy, or even better... If your guild has a Galley, go to Port Ratt together! Hunt sea monsters together!! Sea monsters drop good guild fund loot!

It will require some training and communication to get better on hunting them, but its definitely worth it!

Without your own boat, or riding on a friends/guildy boat you won't be able to kill the sea monsters. The ferry doesn't stop and has no cannons itself.

So don't fall off! Take a Traveler's Map with you just in case...
